Everyone wants the best price when
purchasing their wedding gown.
However, those “discounts” and “savings”
do not always mean that you will
be saving money in the long run. Be
sure to get all the facts before purchasing
your gown, whether it be via the
Internet or over the phone, from a
large national chain, or from a full service
bridal shop.
There are advantages to buying some
things over the phone or via the
Internet. However, shopping this way
you may run the risk of the dress being
dirty, not in the correct size, and sometimes
the wrong style altogether.
If shopping at a large chain store, keep
in mind that what appear to be ‘discounts’
and a large selection of styles
may not necessarily be what they
seem. A “$99.00 dress sale” may only
offer a very small selection of gowns at
$99.00, and the cost of alterations may
not be included in the price of the
gown. (Be sure to inquire about the
cost of alterations prior to purchasing
your gown.) Large chains may not
offer the designer gowns you see
advertised in bridal magazines, but instead stock many sizes in their own
line of dresses.
Something as important as your wedding
gown, an item that requires professional
measuring, careful fittings,
and custom alterations, may best be
purchased at a full-service bridal
shop. When purchasing a dress from
their store many full-service bridal
shops offer brides savings on tuxedos,
invitations, and other accessories.
These savings can far outweigh those
offered by purchasing your gown over
the Internet or in a large chain store.
Full-service bridal shops offer many
different designer dresses and encourage
you to try on multiple styles before
making your final decision. Also, they
usually offer in-house alterations and
will typically press and store your
dress at no additional charge. These
owner-operated stores focus their
attention on you and pride themselves
on their customer service.
Your wedding gown is likely the most
special dress you will ever wear. Be sure
to research all of the facts carefully and
thoughtfully before buying it. |
